I think this is lovely Glennis, the church, buildings and trees in the background are slightly vague, which gives a good sense of depth. The fence is quite light and the gate is ajar so I don't think that's a problem, the church position and the tree at the right hand edge does tend to pull the eye to the right. Putting the church tower a little to the left and bringing the tree further in would help the composition (in my opinion of course!)

Stephen thank you for your comment - interesting, I thought the fence would be the main problem because it looked as though it was closed off.

Hi Glennis - you are right in that the 'rules' say that you shouldn't put a boundary straight across as it tends to cut the picture in half. Maybe it would have helped if you had left the gate a little more ajar but the fence is reasonably muted as to not distract the eye too much so I wouldn't worry rules are there to be broken. Anyway it's a lovely watercolour.

Lovely soft scene Glennis. Leaving the gate open really helps, as you feel you can walk through. Like Michael says the fence is softly painted so does not intrude.

Thank you all for your comments - very encouraging - next step to tackle those awful 'greens', that's for another day!

This is a lovely landscape watercolour, Glennis. Beautiful colours, especially in the sky. "I" would have left the gate a little bit more open in the middle to lead the eye into the distance, but that is my opinion!

Mia - your opinion is always welcome, many thanks and I would like to thank you for your comments on my artwork over the last year much appreciated. I wish you and your family a very Happy Christmas

Until you mentioned the fence I would not have noticed it. Please don't worry about it as the colours you have used , especially in the sky take the eye away from the fence. Merry Christmas :)

Thanks Glennis for your comment on my Snow Scene, I like your sky and the village in the distant background, maybe if you had omitted the gate it would lead you into the picture but still it is a nice composition.

I like this, anyway, Glennis. It's a lovely scene, and rules are made to be occasionally broken. I agree with Michael, the fence is pretty muted, so I didn't see it as offensive.

Painted this - but I think I have broken the rules of landscape - I think perhaps the fence is in the wrong place, no doubt some kind person will put me straight!
