I know box canvases aren't supposed to need framing, thouigh I still think they do, but I can see this in a square frame with a mount cut to fit - think it would look good. Works very well, with the sea as a backdrop.

Just having a look at your olive tree. I don't know whether the sharp curves of the diamond are as kind to the gentleness of this particular tree as, say, a hexagon would be? I think Robert's suggestion of putting it in a square frame might lessen the sharpness though, it's a good thought. For composition though I prefer the seascape....because of its branches the tree is necessarily centred, and I think the seascape has better balance. Is this a very old tree? It has lots of character, and the sea in the background works especially well.

Thanks to Robert and Ruth for your comments. I think it is very old tree as the growth looked very fresh after a very severe pruning. I loved the contrast between sky and soil as well the lovely old tree. I'll look into framing this one, a few goes in photoshop to play with different styles perhaps.

I agree with you this triangle shape suits the tree very nicely, its a love painting.

I think I prefer the seascape in this format. You are enjoying yourself.

Thanks for your comment on my tree Gary. See why you liked this olive tree so much; beautiful shape and really like the scattered foliage, which gives an impression of warm, sea breeze. It's easy to take trees for granted but they really are extraordinay living things.

Acrylic on box canvas 40x40cm. My second attempt both at this picture (see my Pastels & Pencils gallery for the 1st one) and at the diamond shaped composition. This is an olive tree I found and fell in love with whilst on holiday in Stoupa in Greece. I think the diamond shape works much better here than in my first attempt at a seascape a few weeks ago, the subject matter helps. As always comments welcome!
