beautiful love the composition especially

This is lovely Frances.

Stunning! I love the composition!

A Pre-Raphaelite beauty!

Stunning work, amazing use of watercolour !

Beautiful work. She is a stunner. Love the red hair and the pose. Wanted to ask you a question how do you achieve such a dark smoth background. It almost look like oils: dark and very velvety rich. It is something I always struggle with, and most of the time opt out of using it. Sometimes I paint the object first and then do the background, and sometimes the other way around.

I am struggling to believe that this is done in watercolour!! It is amazing and beautiful and you skill with the medium is obvious.

Olga....inreply to your question. When mixing paint I am always generous and usual mix more than I need. I made the colour nice and strong and flood in onto the paper, so I can cover it evenly and smoothly.

Thank you very much for the tip Frances. May I ask what mix of colours you use. I tend to stay away from "Blacks" out of the tube, even Payene's Grey in the mix seems to "deaden" it. So I stick with mixing blacks & greys bu using complementary colours. Preference of mine for the dark rich mix is French Ult + Indian Red, but it never comes as dark as yours.
