Really nice portrait Frances , I'm not surprised it won a prize.

Stunning! A great gallery.

What a striking portrait, A very beautiful head, unusual angle and superbly executed. This work must be even more stunning in the original with it's gold background!

Absolutely stunning. Very expressive and interesting face.

I did not realise it was the gold leaf in the background. I know that tempera painters use it quite often. Does it land itself to staying attached to the paper. It did create such an unusual and wonderful background. Thank you for sharing

Olga... I use a special glue for gols leaf which I apply after I have painted the face. I then apply the gold leaf and wait for it todry then brush the excess away.

Thank you Frances. It works magic. Maybe one day I will be bold enough to try it. With the price of gold so high at the moment, it must be very expensive.

Expert rendition of the portrait, and a brilliant touch to use the gold leaf

This is a watercolour and gold leaf painting. Last year it won the Ian Black small painting prize at the Bath Society of artists exhibition.
