lovely............

Those lovely Hellebores. Excellent watercolour once again.

You really do have a remarkable talent

Very nice work.

Beautifully painted as always. Love the way the flowers really stand out against the unusual colours of the background.

Carole I really admire your watercolour flowers. The composition is always spot on and the colours are lovely. Any chance of you giving us beginners a few more detailed tips about how you have done one of these lovely paintings? Congratulations on your sale. No doubt you have sold many more since then.

Hi Judith, I'm no expert ! It's more luck than judgment regarding my composition. Very often I don't plan a painting. A particular flower takes my fancy & I just plough in. Sometimes I start a painting, it doesn't look right so I add to it in any direction til it does. Of course there's often failures. Occasionally I mask the whole flowers so I can freely do the background, after this I lift out here & there. Some negative areas painted in also adding some white pencil as in picture above. I sometimes use a little white gouache on dark paint to rescue an area. Oh, and I like to splatter or add salt, it adds a bit of interest ! Hope this is helpful. Thank you very much for your kind comments. Carole.

Thanks very much. That is very helpful. I shall have a go. I love your work.

i like the way the white flowers are coming off the paper,i've started to have a go at flower painting ,really strugling with the backgrounds .love your gallery

Hi Alan, thanks for comments. A good way to start I think is to mask flowers first, then your free to let flowing washes merge together on the paper. Let this dry then add more depth to washes and shapes til your happy with it then rub off masking and tackle flowers. Hope this helps a bit. Carole.

wow Carole... I love your depth of colour in this painting.... and i love the vibrancy of the flowers. how inspiring is all your work!
