Ducks and waders - acrylic sketch

Ducks and waders - acrylic sketch

There's lot more than "potential" in this beautiful painting, Emma. It's a super collection of waterfowl that really does look like a genuine gathering. A real eye-catcher. The only thing I'd query, if you don't mind me saying, is the scale of the background birds. They may be perfect, by the way, because birds vary in size, but I wondered if they were just a touch too big. I Only mention this because you say this is a sketch, for what I presume might be a more detailed painting. Nevertheless, a cracking painting. Bri

Bri - you're right on both counts - Wigeon are significantly larger than teal or lapwing, but that made them a bad choice for the background as they do make it look wrong! But yes, it is a sketch and with a tricky new medium, so I was working things out as I went along instead of carefully planning it first.

This is smashing Emma. You have caught the movement and poses beautifully.

Thanks Carole.

Thanks Maureen.

Every time I try to use acrylics, I remember why I gave up the last time...but there are parts of this that show potential. I am going to go away and practice! The scene was painted from photos taken at Saltholme one sunny winter morning.
