The Dambusters' March came into my head as soon as I saw this....

Don't know if you're right that they could fly if slimmed down and suitably motivated: I remember that Douglas Adams spoke of an Antipodean bird (the kea?) which can walk about, and climb trees, "and sometimes thinks it can fly: which it does - like a brick".

Dambusters March - excellent idea! If we didn't breed them to the KFC type (fat with tiny wings) we would have the better free-range style jobs. I have seen some of these and they have reasonable wing loading and tail moment/area so they could fly. (Perhaps if dropped from about 400 feet they would use up about 300 rediscovering what to do and pull out and fly on. Not of course as high as I depict or for as long but...)

I like the quirkiness of your art Steve and I chose this one to comment on because I have free range hens. Admittedly not large ones, more your modern game type, and they can certainly fly! Not for long distances but fly they can...especially when I'm trying to catch them!lol

Thanks Fiona - I like the energy and vitality of your work. It makes everything come to life and grab the attention. Just be good to those hens or they might be up there at 3000 feet one day ready for revenge!

What bizarre images and points of view you create Steve, I love them. I just wouldn't want to spend too long in your head, thats all. Great art you are making here. (I will defend each word of that sentence) David

Thanks David. I like to be different. There are many excellent paintings of more normal stuff so I seek to amuse and bemuse mostly. I will still make the occasional "normal" work like The Forth Bridge or that fireplace or my next (a gift for my old flying club) which will be an air to air of a vintage glider. As a beginner, every one is still an experiment in technique so I never know if they are going to even be useable - I like that though. Splodge ever onwards!

Wov -its possible!

My "pet" theory is that they are perfectly good aerodynamically and could fly if not fattened up by us and if they remembered how to

Citizen of Legoland, Commissioner of Oaths I prefer to paint either unusual subjects or usual ones from an unusual angle - or (attempts at) humour. I started in spring 2015. My art may not be wonderful but I take a workmanlike approach to it and enjoy the challenge anyway. Sometimes too busy…
