Beautiful work, Derek, I like both versions, but have a special affinity for your sketch, especially its spontaneity, clean lines and clear washes.

Thanks Seok, of course the sketches are always spontaneous and my wife nearly always prefers them to the finished work. By the way, the cars were not really flying past in the sky!

I think your pen & wash sketch is beautiful Derek.

Yes I think I prefer the sketch - so well done.

Thanks Michael, everyone has their own slant on it.

Ah, the White Horse at Prior's Dean. This is the name of the pub with no name! Particularly like the pen and wash to the right. It's good to see someone else attempt Hampshire pubs-they are a passion of mine. Did you show the landlord? is it worth sharing with the brewery? (fullers I believe)

Thanks Philip, I have done a few as usually I would be running, with the Hash House Harriers round the pubs, but when I was injured I busied myself doing sketches like this. I didn't show the landlord or the brewery, but good idea.

20 x 30cm on board. From the sketch alongside. The hostelry is really buried away near Petersfield but well worth seeking out. I was working from a demo in Tim Diebler's book and he uses a limited palette including Pthalo Blue (Wow!). Any way I added some Cobalt Blue and Naples Yellow and altered the colours from my sketch, which was pen and watercolour wash. I may tweak some of the gutter/roof lines to improve the perspective.

Eleventyeight as my hashing pals called my new age recently, it's supposed to sound better. Trying to paint every day in acrylics using only expired credit/debit cards, and partially succeeding as they're only for me and not show these days.
