Sorry wrong!! No ink just watercolour

I'm familiar with this scene Derek but haven't painted it in ages. It would be interesting to go back and compare and contrast how I might go about it. I think I'd paint it wetter than you have though your watercolour may have Ben drying as it hit the paper, such has been the lovely weather down here lately. Live the blue green background trees which gives a real sense of recession. The foreground barn would benefit from more warmer work to bring it forward, but a lovely piece.

"Been" drying and "love" the blue/green......

Thanks Philip, typo's? We all make those. Your observations and knowledge of the scene are invaluable. I do remember we were in a battle with the weather (as always) I may go back and re-do it, but who knows.

Ah the paradox of watercolour. You wait all year to paint en plain air and when that sunny day comes it's too hot and you can't paint wet into wet. Watercolour is all about contradictions. It looks best when loose and apparently casual, but these need an extreme level of timing and planning. Organised spontaneity! I may write an article on it!

Yes agreed. Have just been looking through my sketch book and I know my wife loves the loose freshness of them. I was looking for my sketches at Bursledon Brickwaoks as the Winchester Art Club is holding an exhibition there late July and I thought I could work up from one of them to a finished piece. Might do.

This sketch definitely has that 'done on the spot' spontaneity that is so charming and engaging. Well done for getting out there and strutting your stuff!

Thank you Thea. Have only done a day outdoor sketching or so this year, but will do more.

Eleventyeight as my hashing pals called my new age recently, it's supposed to sound better. Trying to paint every day in acrylics using only expired credit/debit cards, and partially succeeding as they're only for me and not show these days.
