This is so much more free, open and energized than your colour painting, so I suspect you are getting tight and nervous when you add colour. By the way, "add" colour - are you drawing and then putting colour on top, or laying down the most basic construction lines and then drawing with colour? The latter is usually the way to go. My only reservation with this particular drawing is that the sky is a bit flat, the tone at top at bottom being too close - you've erased the clouds, I think, with putty rubber; difficult technique to make work: I'd try using the side of a soft pencil instead. Love the viaduct.

robert, hi im laying the very basics then building up the colour.. yes the clouds were done with a putty rubber, this was one of my first drawings
