Despite what you say about the boy being dead centre, it works. I think sometimes it does. I'm always so conscious to make sure I have nothing dead centre but I think it depends on the rest of the painting and there are so many other strong features in this painting that it doesn't matter. As I opened it I thought to myself 'there is a composition that shouldn't work in theory but very much does work' and 'how can I push myself more to try more interesting compositions like this'!! Its lovely Dennis.

Thankyou Georgina very much for that lovely comment I'm very grateful to you thanks again

The figure stands out well in the well placed patch of light. I wonder sometimes about the ‘rules’ of composition sometimes, if we hadn’t heard of them, would we be bolder?

Thank you Stephen you make a good point, the rules over are a good thing and I instinctively follow them generally but they are not absolute there's always exceptions to rules , hopefully this is one

The boy is actually lower than "dead centre" Dennis, and his dark figure, and doggo, against the light works well. Some lovely lights here too.

Nice work here Dennis.... no Dennis, I am sure you win because the position of the dark tree to the left pulls your eye, and that path leads us in.... not out. Relax....well done.

Luminous, Dennis. About the position of the figure...he's on the path...placing him anywhere else on that path would look odd, or awkward...he's just right. (Only my opinion). Great work, as usual, Dennis.

One rule leads to another and inhibits freedom well broken Dennis

I don't worry about things like that. It looks great to me as the path is leading the figures left etc. Great light.

You know what? Rules are there to be broken...but only when you know what you're doing. This works really well. Absolutely stunning...I thought I was fast, but you're faster and better by far, Brilliant work

I really like this Dennis

Excellent Dennis. To me the boy and dog are "about right", especially just going out of the shadow.

You and Charlie walking in the evening sun. A very beautiful painting and the boy in the centre works very well, Dennis.

That bit of light.. perfectly placed again!
