I love to see reference photos and yes, it's really useful. The colours are dark but the scene is full of light. Great sparkle on the water.

Hope it's helpful in your own work Caroline and many thanks

Each one, amazing.

Thanks Jenny very much appreciated

Wonderful! Thanks for putting the two side by side. Helpful and inspiring. As an artist, we can always pick and choose what we keep, change, add and subtract....to reveal our vision of it! Thanks for sharing Dennis. I always enjoy looking at your work and your interpretation of life's moments! Love the color choices in your painting.

This is interesting Dennis. I love how you have changed the colour of the building. Lovely painting.

A brilliant mind and brilliant artist Dennis

Thank you Nancy if you look at the ref figure he is lost in background jumble and doesn't stand out by removing the jumble he's now the focal point , I'm glad it was interesting to you Nancy and I'm very grateful for your valuable comments.

Thanks Suzanne very much

It's a great painting Dennis and quite a challenge you've set! The water is more 'liquid' in your painting than in the original photograph!

Interesting - nice one Dennis

Certainly an excellent composition, Dennis, and very atmospheric to boot. Thanks for sharing your artistic process, it's very illuminating.

What a lovely painting Dennis!

Yes very helpful Dennis, thanks. Love your simplification.

I have put this on with the ref photo to show you the simplifying process . I tend to remove any distraction so that the almost silhouetted figure takes the limelight. Hope it's usefull to you other artists. I removed all detail behind the figure so he would stand out it now looks like a white wall which is a perfect backdrop for him.
