FIRST DAY BATTLE OF THE SOMME (DETAIL)

FIRST DAY BATTLE OF THE SOMME (DETAIL)
Comments

This is a project i have wanted to do for years, being the 100th anniversary i have approached the subject. Each of the white blocks has a total of 3500 dots ,giving a painting total of 19240 the number of British Army sons ,husbands and fathers slaughtered on this tragic day, a national tragedy and a disgusting waste of life. My own grandfather ,who i never knew was killed 18th September 1918 in the battle of Ephey, so this awful senseless conflict has a personal connection

Devastation of the worst kind David. It isn't until you quantify the figure visually that you get an idea of the losses. An impressive tribute.
