George the Staffie by David Roy Mullins

Now why on earth hasn't this been overwhelmed by comments? I dunno, this site....! Great dog, wonderfully characterful painting: Staffies have had a lousy press - wholly unfairly, because they're great dogs when they've got good owners; their great strength, and their downfall too, is their extreme loyalty. Can't expect a dog to discriminate between those who deserve loyalty and those who don't. I very much like the way you've faded out the bulk of the dog without cropping it obviously, and the strength and intelligence in his face. You've got a great gallery, even if, in a moment, of old man's grouch, I remember criticizing one of your paintings!
