Was his name Melchett in that series - I thought that was his name in the one with Elizabeth 1?? No matter - great portrait - you have got him down to a T.

Thank you Thea. He actually goes under the full name of: General Sir Anthony Cecil Hogmanay Melchett in Blackadder Goes Forth! :0) You are thinking of Lord Melchett in Blackadder II, the second (Tudor/Elizabethan series) You might have guessed that I ADORE Blackadder! :0)

The final programme of the fourth series "Goodbyee" was sad and poignant. The fourth series contains one of my favourite quotes that is sheer genius: "Field Marshall Haig is about to make another gargantuan effort to move his drinks cabinet six inches closer to Berlin!"

Super portrait, David, recognised him straight away. Like you, I thought the series was great. My favourite quote was He? sir, He?, there you are Blackadder, laughing already!

Yep, that's General Melchett - one of Fry's greatest creations; the gorgets would have been gold on red, and slightly shorter, not that I'm a pedant at all.
