The stripes make a very effective contrast, though, to the solid color of this lucky fella, and is really effective. It's a lovely painting.

Really good characterful painting. That dog knows it shouldn't be on the sofa I think!

What a lovely picture, I recognise the look on Ollie' face as I have two dogs of my own and see it quite regularly on their faces, Pastel was the right choice to use and the stripes are fantastic. :)

Thanks everyone, I will try a few more on velour but I am finding it a very different approach than my normal sanded paper. LINDA - its v. difficult to make a mark with a hard conte pastel for the under drawing and initial blocking in & pastel pencils leave a score mark in the paper. Also virtually impossible to correct a mistake so added stress in trying to get it right first time! David
