Sorry for the poor capture...my phone is on its last legs.

Has worked well David...I like the way you are loosening up especially the fore ground trees. I might be wrong but your sky looks as if you have used the dreaded Paynes Grey ? With a smidge of ochre? Violet and Prussian blue would have been a bit more my choice , but it's all trial and error and it's not alf bad .😊

I think you've made a very good attempt at this David. Perhaps with the sky you could wet the paper a little more and drop in the colour, says me who is no watercolourist! As for not wanting to paint up to the edge, why not use masking tape as a frame? I do this whenever I paint on paper and get great pleasure when I remove it , leaving a lovely neat edge - like a frame.

Hey! for a relative novice, you're doing fine mate. Good tip Marjorie Sylvia, it's one of my favourite colours!

Thanks all for the encouragement. Yes, I did add Paynes Grey...how can you tell and why is it not good? ("dreaded"!!) I'm going to try the front aspect I think Maybe out in the air!

David I like the sky, it has a stylised effect. Great drawing, and I’m with Sylvia ref the foreground trees...you made the right choice keeping them loose.

Lol , each to their own re the dreaded Paynes Grey.. personally I really do not like it...( hate it in fact) . Derek obviously loves it...it's a bit like Marmite. My very own view is that it deadens a painting, and I prefer to mix my darker colours...try violet and brown.... give or take on indigo/ Prussian. You have to play around and find what you like. Cos it's your pic.

This turned out really well David, it's a difficult subject but you have challenged yourself and it looks marvellous. Well done! Just for the record, I do use Paynes Grey.

Watercolour on paper. I came out of the College one evening, saw this and thought...I've gotta try that. Not happy with the sky so comments please on improving that aspect especially welcome.
