hi this is very good love the shape and colour xx

I do like it David, you have a couple of smashing watercolour studies here. Like the additions of the splashes adds a bit of texture.

Thank you very much. Great encouragement. D

Hi David. The colour and shape are spot on. Usually though shadows are DARKER,for some reason this shadow is lighter and looks a bit like a pool of blood. ugh . Like the splats but they are a bit random. Use them actually on the chillie...and lots more. Also ( nit picker me) shadows are longer then the actual subject . a bit depending on the light source. Sort out the shadow REALY , really dark ( and not the colour of the chillie. } Theres my destructive crit for the day. ;-)

Thanks Sylvia. All noted. In fact, the chilli was illuminated from above and the shadow length is exactly scale. It was also sitting on a shiny pice of black granite, so the shadow was actually a reflection and was red - but it has obviously not transposed well as it is painted, so thanks for your useful comments. I shall now cut off an ear (mine, not yours...please don't stay awake at every little noise!)

Ha ha David a good explanation re chilli colour and reflection cos that is what you are now talking reflection not shadow. But your viewer doesn't know that as you haven't shown it. . If it is reflected from above you will have very light bright light on the top of your chilli. Why not paint in the reflective granite ? Now there's a challenge ....maybe you will be completely earless at the end of it .

As for my first one, I have simply tried to paint what I see as an exercise in learning to paint what I see! I can pretty much see what is wrong, so helpful comments on how to fix obvious flaws will be appreciated. Mind you, if you just like the picture, that's a bonus.
