You’ve definitely captured the light through the gateway. A lovely painting and as you say a lovely place to visit.

A gorgeous painting

It’s charming as it is, Russell. I love the light, the way it catches her hair and how you’ve caught her movement. Saw your painting at Patchings yesterday - looked good!

Ps Just noticed that rather good brickwork.

And so she discovers the secret garden! A delightful picture with excellent use of light and detail and a story waiting to be told. Well done Russell.

Marvelous light, and a great composition. WIP or not, it's still very fine work.

Walled gardens are magical and this gives that sense of adventure and mystery as going through the doorway. Really lovely.

So lovely, especially the sun on her head and entering a beautiful garden. Super treatment of light Russell.

Beautiful painting - the light and depth through the door are really special.

Thank you all for your comments, always much appreciated. Thank you Marjorie for spotting such an insignificant painting in Patchings!

It wasn't insignificant, it was a little gem!

Lovely light and subject!

Captured so well, and the brick wall too showing the distinction of light upon the hedges and green foilage as the little girl walks through the open gate, a great scene and spectacular too!

Your tonal values works very well here. Lovely painting!

This is a smasher and so small too - wonderful piece of storytelling beautifully painted

A lovely painting Russell.

Excellent painting and fantastic use of light.

Thank you very much everyone for your kind comments

Omg, I was going to paint exactly similar subject with an adult from a recent Scotland visit as my next project .Good job.

8" x 10",oil. Painted on a used canvas much looser and quicker than I usually do, trying to capture the bright sunlight through the door of the walled garden at Erddig Hall a place we visit often. It was a 'work in progress' but having left it for a while I haven't the urge to return to it.
