Lovely painting and beautiful colours, Clare. I like the subject too.

These old mines make great subjects for painting - though I'd have hated to work in them when they were still in operation. A pity that most of them are being allowed to fall into decay - though that does make them even more interesting to paint, and you've caught the bleakness, the strength, and given a testament to a vanished industrial past.

For years I have been trying to capture the feeling of these structures, tombstones to a bygone industry; and you have nailed it especially well with this image, I absolutely love this!

Thank you so much for your very kind comments. I love painting the old tin mines set in the rugged wild landscape of Cornwall. I'm so pleased that you feel my work captures the mood and feelings, because for me, I find walking amongst the mines and learning about the history, is so emotive of the harshness and the struggle of the very hard working life for so many people. This is especially poignant when the wind is blowing and the weather is coming in, and the skies look so stormy. I love being out there - and glad that I'm not working in those mines!
