Forgive me for picking on a particular element of the painting rather than the whole, but I like the painting of the left side of the face and the texture you've achieved. I'm less convinced by the eyes, to be honest: I think that's taking the painting a little farther than it really wants to go. On the whole, I think a painting should carry whatever message you wish to convey, and that it does so best if you can avoid symbolism in any form. This would have been a much stronger painting without the added symbolism.
