It certainly looks alive...maybe it's an Ent ? Re Lord of the rings. Exciting image. Could be a bit scary! Have looked at all of your gallery, Cornish Hedge and this one are what do it. For me.

With a strong nod to Graham Sutherland. I rather like his sketches and small paintings although some of the larger canvasses don't affect me so much. This one began with a lump of hedge ripped out by a tractor hedge trimmer.
