For what it is worth Chris , my opinion is that you should stick with your present idea. These two are probably world renowned , instantly recognisable , whilst the same may not hold so true for a compilation - for instance I do not recognise any of the smaller pictures but I knew the front cover straight off. In truth , those two are in a league of their own so title and picture are complimentary.

Thank you for your imput Mike.

It might well alienate the supporters of other clubs. I felt the same when I painted footballers and ended up painting red and blue shirts just to be on the safe side. My players weren't recognisable but football fans can be sensitive to these things I think and I was using a Manchester gallery at the time! I do think your cover looks excellent and eyecatching but possibly using names from different clubs might be a better idea. I'm really not sure as I'm not into football at all and I'd be interested to hear what others think (especially any City fans) Good luck it's a tricky decision which to use.

Thank you Louise. Football is a tribal thing and potential readers and buyers of football related books may buy according to their own allegiances. From an artistic point of view I think having 1 or 2 figures in a simple composition is the way to go it's just this tribal thing that concerns me. Thats why I put samples of other players from other clubs on the back to help to mitigate this. Food for thought.

I have been playing around with designs for the front cover of my book, "In a League of Their Own", which pays homage to the players that that played in the Premier League since it's inception. I like the Beck's and Fergie cover, as I believe those two have done more than most to promote the League in the last 20 odd years. I just worry that two Man Utd icons may alienate fans of other clubs? I may do a compilation front cover depicting several star names from different clubs, but wander if the image may lack the impact and simplicity of the Beck's and Fergie image. Does anyone out there have a view on this?
