"Whenever we want to combat our enemies, first and foremost we must start by understanding them rather than exaggerating their motives." I think I would like your art if it wasn't so politically naive, "The light obtained by setting straw men on fire is not what we mean by illumination"

Fair comment David. I don't claim to be an expert on politics. The pictures for me are cathartic. Anyone looking at them can make of them what they will. Where did the quote come from BTW.?

The emotions with which you paint this topic come through and it seems clear what the pictures say (something that I would reject entirely) but the quotes first one is by Criss Jami, Killosophy and the second is by Adam Gopnik. There has been a clear and definite polarization in our media of late whereby both sides are guilty of misrepresenting the other in order to vilify them, as it comes to the point that opposite sides will not engage each others idea's (but merely set light to a naive straw man of each other) it seems that the only direction if meaningful conversation breaks down is to violence. This is why I object to your imagery in this regard, when you vilify a group identity (whether it be Jews in Germany, the bourgeois in Russia, a political affiliation or a sexual orientation) you end up giving the means to people for them to justify a bloodbath. Our culture is less robust than it appears, the line between civility and barbarity is a thinner one than most imagine and I don't like the way things are going, particularly with post-modernist group identity victim hood culture. Sorry for the diatribe but there is a chasm of hell stretching out in front which I passionately hope mankind can avoid.

Brian ....It could be a democrat . Same expression.

I take your point about polarization, David. I'm still processessing what you say. We are living in a dangerous moment. A lot of my compositions are inspired by some of Goya's political work, which seem relevant still. I have been thinking, a great deal of how to make them less specific, yet still express how I feel about those worrying trends. And dangerous people.
