Old friends

Superbly painted, the owner must be so pleased.

Thank you Val, I have painted lots of people's pets that are no longer with us, I try to revive the photos that I work from - the eyes are the most important. I do use watercolour in an intense style!

I don't know why - probably being slightly mad helps - but the moment I saw this I was reminded of an old photo of two elderly Victorian clergymen .... it's the intensity of the gaze, I think, and the general appearance of quizzical interest, plus a healthy sense of reserve. It's a touching painting, and I should have been pleased to have it if the dogs had been mine; you've certainly caught character.
