Not sure if you are wanting to buy an SLR to photograph your art, but I thought I would tell you about a programme that you can download for free. It is great for dealing with photographs - for example, you can crop out all the background. You can also adjust the contrast and brightness if the photo is not accurate relative to the painting. The program is called Irfanview.
