Finally completed to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War I, this painting titled ‘Ypres Déjà Vu’, depicts good versus bad represented by lush bright fields and dark menacing clouds. Thick black smoke form clouds which hold memories of past battles. It is hard to believe that the picturesque landscape and buildings including St Martin’s Cathedral in Ypres, Belgium were destroyed in World War I. ‘They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
