Oh Ann she is delightful.

What a lovely portrait of a beautiful dog. I take it from your past tense that Lucy is not with you anymore - even more reason to cherish this wonderful image of her.

This has a beautiful softness about it Ann, the way you have blended the pencil. You can tell the portrait was done with love and tenderness. Have you got your sketch book yet?

Thank you all for comments. Lucy passed away some years ago, this was done from a rather old photo. She was a lovely dog which I had from Birmingham Dogs Home. I was happy with Lucy but wished I had done something different with the back ground, the creases in the seat of the sofa are not very good and I whould have taken more time with the diamonds on the back but its too late now, I'm sure Lucy wont mind! Fiona I have received the samples but not had chance to try them yet, but looking at the leather covers and they way they are made I cannot wait to purchase one. There were 6 sheets but it did not say which ones were sealed for watercolour use,3 were cartridge paper the other 3 seamed to have the same texture as yours but look quite thin so I will have to try them out.

Hi Ann, the paper I use is the one that is textured and yes, it is quite thin.

A lovely painting. Placing Lucy in such plush surroundings simply adds poignancy to her story told through the painting. I think you've done just the right amount of work on the sofa as the lesser detail allows Lucy to shine and take centerstage.

Such a gorgeuse picture of an old friend. I rather like the background too :)

A lovely portrait Ann. I really admire your skill with coloured pencils and the rendering of the dog's coat is very realistic. I too, feel that the background is just right - it is understated and doesn't draw the eye away from the main subject. Looking at her face, I can imagine she was a delightful dog, and much missed.

Gorgeous coloured pencil drawing of Lucy and a lovely tribute to her Ann

Fiona Phipps, if you are able to pick this up I am after the company that did the leather bound handmade paper books. Long shot I know ..... Ann x
