Captain Cook's Cottage by Angela Harrison

Comments

Like this a lot, Angela - brought back fond memories of my visits to Melbourne.

Interesting and thanks for the narrative

Why thankyou David and the Fitzroy gardens is one of my favourite parks in Melbourne,, especially where the original Captain Cook's Cottage is in a perfect situation to sketch and draw. The lilac is still blossoming and sweet perfume kind of keeps the atmosphere intact even through a century of many passersby..

Why thank you Heather, and you know each brick of this cottage was numbered and sent over from Yorkshire by ship, so the original furnishings too are intact...We are so fond of Captain Cook's Cottage as he is a special patron and explorer who founded Colonial Australia. I wanted to sketch it as it is meaningful and I have a passion for old buildings ,, but need more practice in sketching out in the parks or streets ,, did use to but need to get out and sketch buildings again!

I really like this drawing, Very interesting tones and textures.

Found this original sketch from a while ago that I think later was printed but it appears dark on this photo ...(wasn't sure whether I applied charcoal after the pencil sketch?) however I remember sitting in The Fitzroy Gardens , Melbourne sketching this historical cottage that I do believe is his original cottage transported by ship for this famous Captain who discovered Australia. Notice the post pillar box on the left, and small window, a glimpse of 1800's historical architecture from shore to shore!
