Thankyou Heather, I have been drawing from the point of starting with eyes as before started with the forehead and worked from hair-line to chin ...maybe need to return to the method of drawing lines and get better alignment anyway was just doodling about today and yes portraits need practice...

Thankyou Linda, Its been simply ages since I sketched a self portrait from gazing in a mirror. Its all trial and error but we learn how to develop from practice and I certainly need to align better and might try another one again while in a drawing phase! Someone gifted me a set of pencils so was trying out the 3B and 4B pencils as they do glide and smudge in the contours deeper than the Hb and 2H and 3H, just trying them out!

Hi Angela, it seems that you. Can use 2H and HB for the lighter parts of the face, while HB and 2B will suffice for the shadier sides of the face. You will only need anything darker for the nostrils and pupils of the eyes (the darkest parts of the face).
