Forgive a stupid question - does the crackle glaze actually weaken the paint, ie make it liable to flake away? I've not used it yet, and presume it doesn't otherwise - who would sell or buy it? Is it a surface effect, enhanced by painting darker colour over the top....?

If you keep the layers of paint, acrylic in my case, thin then the paint doesn't flake away, In the case of barren land I painted dark brown for the bottom layer, let it dry, then added the crackle glaze and allowed it to go off, then I painted the cream coloured layer which cracked. I bought the crackle glaze from sainsbury's homebase a few years ago now, but google it, you can get it online

Very effective Andi.

Beautifully effective. I bought a little jar of Deco Art crackle glaze it worked. I also bought a tub of Golden crackle to try. They look effective but are temperamental to use I find. Yours looks great.

I guess I was very lucky how it turned out
