The close crop is a good idea but too tight on the left apple..needs a little more room to do it justice. Middle apple lacks solidity and i would have been inclined to omit it. The bowl tilts one way...and that's perhaps how it was...but the angle of the table is neither one thing nor another, rather unconvincing and at variance with that of the bowl. Perhaps a more acute angle would have increased the dynamics compositionally. Background colour does the apples and bowl no favours. Shadow under bowl and table might have benefited from a smoother technique...brush marks are all over the place. Finally, your light source flattens the apples and reduces their robustness and three dimensional strength and possible drama...they don't look important enough. Your other apple painting is more convincing and powerful...by comparison, this looks like a half-herarted time filler....we all do them, but don't need the comments of others to confirm what we already know.

This was 2 hour painting of a still life set up so the objects depicted, perspective, color and light source are accurate...brush marks are intentional. I submitted this painting to an exhibition last week and it sold on the opening night.
