Whatever have you done this one to get that sort of chequered effect? It has to be a special sort of paper? I'm fascinated. It almost looks as if the whole picture is behind net.

This was my second serious drawing, a commission. I used a terracotta coloured pencil (quite waxy) on heavy oil paper. I was experimenting at that time. I moved on to pastels shortly after.
