I fell in love with the story of Pretty Boy, the doomed tiger and am painting him in soft pastels on Sansfix paper.  The problem is that I'm not sure how much of the background to include and would appreciate advice.  The paper was an offcut so I am limited in size. Should I leave it as it is, a somewhat blurry background, or try to add more foliage?  I don't want to spoil the work so far. Any advice from pastel artists would be appreciated. Great start. As it's an off cut, not sure this can be more than just an exercise, which is a shame. But that does mean you can experiment with the background. It can always be wiped back if not right.
Hi, I tried doing the background on another piece of pastel paper but felt it made the work look lopsided.  I've not found that wiping back on Sansfix paper is successful and decided the work was better under glass so have framed Pretty Boy.  I will have another attempt as a friend likes the tiger and would like a similar pastel painting as a present.
Here is the framed tiger ...
Absolutely gorgeous! You're a very skilled artist. I would like to see more of your works.
