No, not Southwold, Lancs, but Lancasters over Southwold.
Why? Because on Operation Chastise (Dambusters) Wave 1 went out this way and COULD have flown over Southwold pier. A friend of mine saw my Mosquito picture and asked for a Lancaster picture preferably showing "a glimpse", he said, of the bouncing bomb. So here we have 617 sqn Lancaster outbound.
Anyway, this is my pre prep - Im working out sky colours and sea colours, to still show black Lancs in some detail at around 2130hrs in May. The moon would be on the right of the painting (East ), yet still low if visible at all. I can thus take liberty with the moonlight - advice heeded here too. I like the formation, especially the high one at the rear who's been sight seeing and is now diving back down to low level (the orders stated that they "may climb to 150 feet if absolutely necessary for navigation"...IIRC from what I saw when I drank in their old mess). The one flying straight at the pier is doing exactly what I would have done (I am a pilot, so I know what I'd do!!) and buzzing an empty pier (a section was removed to stop Jerry getting ashore that way...oh how naive we were.)
Anyway, early prep work so any advice will be well received!!!

Great project to have set yourself. The largest plane on the right is a bit disconcerting its flying right out of the pic and taking me with it !!!!! Maybe more towards the middle coming straight out at me, and larger , make it the focus. Id also look at using black paper with body paint (gouache ) great for drama and your moonlight.
But its your pic, and i will be interested in seeing the final descision . Your drawings are coming on leaps and bounds.

Excellent feedback, thank you.
Do you think it needs a focal point in the foreground in the sea - a buoy perhaps, or a launch? Or should I let the aircraft speak for themselves?
I hadnt considered black paper - Im not usually a fan but will have a look at other examples if I can find them
