I did a drawing of the rock escarpment from a photo I took one evening at dusk while strolling the beach at Rye, Victoria a few weeks ago. The photo was taken from a height as I stood further back from the rocks and the sea was rolling in towards us , a roll of the wave lashing towards us, it was one of those moments when one experiences an expansive feeling where the rocks jagged and brittle reveal beauty from the way the elements have sculpted their shape and form. I was inspired to draw this scene in Watercolour pencil then I added brush later. The horizon line where the sea meets the sky showed the perspective far out into the Tasman sea, even though the waves were turbulent it did engage the visual observation to see far out with the rocks in the foreground longitudinal to express their raw beauty. Think watercolour pigments do work because they reveal depth and linear where the brush work is applied.
