I managed to wrap up the Scrooge pic up last night.  I thought about working on it some more, coloured pencils seem to encourage that sort of thing.  But then I suppose that's true of all mediums, so it's more a case of me not always knowing when to stop.  Not a great photo, the days seem particularly dingy at the moment for camera-work, but I've done my best to replicate the colours on the drawing. One thing I've noticed about pics such as these...to me, they look better the moment you crop them...or slap a mount over them to cover the ragged edges.  Not liking to paint right to the edges of a picture, I always use a border on my pics.  As I don't fuss about painting/drawing exactly to these lines they always get a bit sloppy...as you can see from earlier pictures. So, as always, many reservations about any pic just finished.  Things I might have done differently.  The usual uncertainty.  But I'm glad I persevered with this.  For many years I've drawn something from Dickens Christmas Carol, it's become part of my routine.  So I have one for this year. I'll put on the words for the scene I'm illustrating, and slap it on the gallery.

Brilliant Lewis!
Marvellous Lewis and that is a very feathery feather!
I've been having a bit of a sort out, and thinking about next year.  Early for me, this usually happens around the New Year. The book for this years art has been sent off, which prompted me to sort out the art folders on my computer.  One thing I will be doing throughout next year is my 'Men-in-Sheds' theme.  They will go in a small photobook like the one I mentioned above.  The book will be 15 x 20 cm (or about 6 x 8 inches in real measurements).   The minimum number of pages I can have is 24...so that's 24 men-in-sheds pics/ideas needed.  One per page.  Might struggle with that.  I already have 5 pics done, it'll need a few introductory pages to make sense of it.  I've done one... I'll do 2 or 3 more intro pages like this.  That'll give me 9 pages of the book...so only 15 more men-in-sheds ideas to come up with over the next year.  That's a long way off, so everything may change.
Genius....!  If ever you sell these things, let us know.
Snoozing in his shed… I think your book will be wonderful Lewis.
Page one.... An unoccupied shed, with the door open, inviting everyone in.
Thank you Robert and Sylvia.  This book is a long way off, Robert, but if it gets finished I'll let you know.  A good idea Colin.  The page posted above will be page 1, my page 2 is not far from your idea.  However, if past efforts are anything to go by, lots will change over the coming year. As I said above I've been going through the art files on my computer, reorganising folders, clearing out deadwood.  It's odd the things you come across.  Some years back, I idled with the thought of buying a new graphics pen for creating digital art...it was quite expensive.  I like digital art and used to do a bit.  I'd bought a cheap digital pen that was useless (for me, anyway).  Never actually having tried to draw with the mouse I thought I'd give it a go.  This was the result... ...doesn't look so bad now.  At the time, I thought it awful, because it was nothing like the idea I was trying to draw.  I felt I wasn't in control...but using the mouse was better than the cheap pen I'd bought. The pen has been dumped, I'll never get one of the all new bells and whistles graphic pens.  I still like and admire digital art, but nothing beats drawing with an old fashioned pencil, and now we have the new-fashioned coloured pencils - which offer the same drawing experience - I'll stick to drawing.  I don't think of myself as a painter.  I draw stuff.  Sometimes it's in colour.
I've been dabbling in Pop Art.  I've a new sketchbook set aside for 'different' things.  There's much that appeals about Pop Art, some I like very much and some I think downright awful.  But that's how I feel about all genres of art.  It's hard to pin down exactly, which is how I like things.  One attempt at defining it says... 'Depicting popular culture, often attacking the art system.  It uses highly saturated colour and bold outlines.'  Well...what do you know?  That's what I like, so maybe I've been a closet Pop Artist for all my life.  That description doesn't fit all Pop Art, of course.  It peaked in the 1950s and 60s, but has never really  gone away.  Apparently David Hockey was heavily involved with it in the 60s-70s. Here's something I did in what I'm calling pop-art style...(looks pretty much like everything I do). ...it was going to be a cod-advert in pop-art style...somebody getting glammed up, but don't forget the hand-cream.  Pretty naff, so I didn't continue with it.  But it may be something I can use in some way.  Good fun drawing it...the only reason to do anything. I've started another one....we'll see how it goes.
Still dallying with Pop Art, although I have done some other bits.  I tried some text on a pop art pic, but not much good, my wobbly hands don't help.  But this pop art thing benefits from using photoshop for text and fancy fiddling, so I'll be doing that in future.  Any figures etc will be drawings, it's just the odd tweaking and fiddling with photoshop. I draw this fella with coloured pencils... ...when I got him in photoshop he needed altering...I used scale/distort etc to get him in the pose shown below. The other figures were done in coloured pencil or watercolour, they too have been distorted.  The background shape and text are all photoshop.  Great fun messing about with it.  I want to do six pics like this, I'll print them on matt photopaper.  My inkjet won't provide a longlife print, but it's good enough for my purposes.  This pic may change before I get around to that. Now I'll do something difference and have another go with a dip pen in my sketchbook.
Brilliant Lewis, must surely be a shed for him in honour of all us failed rockers who still think they can hack it even with thinning  hair and expanding waist lines!
I can hear him.....
