Spent some time at Batsford Arboretum this morning painting this hermits cave which I’ve sketched previously and painted in gouache not that successfully. This is oils on a 12x10” canvas board. The dappled sun came through the trees after I’d started, so I think I’ll add it in as I think it’ll add to the effect of the painting. Lovely morning listening to the birds, not many people about as I was there early. Comments welcome please! Tessa
Oops forgot to attach the photo!
Photo now attached, I see (I've done that, too.... you do feel a fool, don't you?). I like your painting - you've got light and colour in a rather dark scene, which also has the useful side-effect of showing me what I did wrong with one of mine, of a local cave.
Love the contrast you've achieved here Tessa, nicely handled!
It looks great, Tessa. I like the foliage and how it dresses the rocks perfectly. Speaking of which, the rocks are very good and the entire scene does what it says on the tin. I can well imagine a hermit living here, even if it's not true. I like this sort of thing and always have. Very nice. Bri
Now there's a challenge, Tessa. I'm looking forward to the end result. It's a real shame about the car and your missed visit to the show but this is a super subject. Of course, Monet springs to mind, which is no bad thing. *smile* Bri
Tessa, get it in one of the comps, pronto. You have nothing to lose, and maybe a win :) Lovely work and a good perspective.
A smashing line-up, Tessa. I do like the cave painting it has a mysterious edge to it. All the very best.
