I've recently started doing more abstracts, but having difficulty knowing when to stop... Could I add anything more to improve the composition - would love to hear any comments?
Very hard to tell whether one's finished a painting or not (I know there's a distinct point at which it's best to just leave them alone - but I don't know of any way in which to tell when that point's been reached); and even harder to tell with an abstract.  It depends rather on what you were aiming for.  Your painting is all horizontals - I suppose you could disrupt it by adding a vertical or diagonal - if that seems like something you'd want to do?   But to be honest - I have enough trouble deciding whether my own stuff is finished, without passing any judgement on anyone else's.  All-horizontal paintings are said to induce a feeling of restfulness - so if that's what you were aiming for: you've probably already achieved it.
Thank you Robert for your comments. I agree with your notes about vertical lines being introduced into the painting but need to consider a little while longer where to put them. I've posted some other abstracts that I painted recently in my gallery if you're interested!
I love your abstracts, Judith. I think I left a comment on the gallery with this one! Always difficult to know when to stop and abstracts are no exception. They’re not easy to paint, but very enjoyable to do. I think you’ll have to go with your gut! This one is beautiful.
