Don’t think I’ve posted this one before - it’s another slow burner, started in 2017: Thought I’d get back onto it while I’m on a roll, so raided the attic and it’s back on the easel, ready to crack on with over the weekend.
Gosh, the detail you have put into this, the reflections and spokes in particular puts me to shame!  Having tried spokes before I know how difficult they are, even if they are traced.  Looks like it will be a real good one.
Fingers crossed Steve! The wheel’s going to take some doing, and what I’ve already done needs a bit of tweaking, but looking forward to it.
Looks good Anth.  Best of luck with those spokes!
Thanks Linda, I’m gonna need it!
Nice one Anthony,  do like who people aren't  afraid of a challenge and using black 👌
I didn’t use black for a long time Bari, I use a mix of Payne’s Grey and raw umber a lot of the time. I do use it when I think it’ll work though, no problem with that! Love the dense black of Rotring ink from my technical illustration days 😁
Most of my rotring pens are from my product design days, the rotring art pen is in daily use, writing and sketching in my journals. One thing I never use is white all my White's are the paper.
I used to love my .25 Rotring on drafting film - god, how old do I sound?! Wish I still had some of my uni work but now all long gone. Love the density of Rotring ink, gives such beautiful solid.
One piece or art equipment I have not got is a Rotring pen - I've often thought about it, but other things distracted me.  I don't work in great detail - haven't the eyesight for it, and on the whole am not entirely keen on it, though I admire others' work who really get down to the fine detail.  However - interested to read that the Rotring pens give a dense black - adding one to my next shopping list. Incidentally, having seen your previous work, I'm pretty sure we'll all have confidence in your getting those spokes right: no pressure, then!
I have been reading that you can use oil pencils on drafting film, a support that I am not familiar with.  I have a Rotring pen buried somewhere, never gets used, but I do use fine liners of various widths, which I find a bit more forgiving.  The Rotrings need to be held at the right angle all the time and consequently are consistent, but I prefer my lines to be more expressive and will even use a dip pen at times.  The spokes look like a good subject for Rotring pens though.  You have done the worst part of it in drawing them out, Anth.
Drafting film’s nice to use as you can ‘scratch out’ on it - was always handy to be able to tidy lines with a curved scalpel blade. Oil pencils could be interesting Linda! And no pressure at all there Robert! 😁 was hoping to get a start tonight but the call of the pub was louder than this, so tomorrow night it is.
