I have started a water colour painting of a whale in the ocean under a ship. Im trying to show the haunting size of these animals and they are definitely one of my favourite. This is very much trial and error, i am learning as i go.
Any tips or advice is much appreciated. I think i may have already made the mistake of using the wrong shade of blue for the sea and sky. What do u think? I will keep going and hopefully i can make it work.
Thanks for looking.

Fiona, it would be interesting to see how this progresses.
It's quite a powerful composition and will certainly show the feeling of scale you are after, so I think that works. I think there is a good balance of proportions in how you have divided the canvas.
If you have a chance to vary the blues, with some wet in wet technique, you will find they look less 'flat', and this may help give some depth to the water and volume to the sky.
You've also started to use the ripples/variations in the water to help direct the eye to the main focus, and that is worth maintaining as well. Do let us see some progress when you can.

Really beautiful progress on that piece, especially how you handled the horizon tones. While browsing earlier, I came across https://casinosanalyzer.com/free-slots-online/Aloha-Cluster-Pays, which gave me a few creative color ideas from its island-inspired theme.
