Good start David - not an easy subject; are you going for a simple treatment, I wonder, or a full-bodied detailed work? I know which I'd go for, especially on this scale. You're in great company though, Constable having made a breathtaking version of this building - it's almost weird to think that this cathedral (just about the most beautiful I ever visited, in and out) spans John Constable and our time today......
I remember visiting Fountains Abbey with a group of housing association executives and chairmen: flippant remarks on the way there, utter wonder when we got there: 'well', said one - 'we wouldn't know how to start building this today!'; well quite, I thought ..... and moreover, we wouldn't try. This sort of building takes not only devotion, but also the ability to see the finished result long after the architects' own deaths. Sure you'll make a great job of the painting.

Ive finished the work...I think. Im putting it in the gallery. Once again I have painted right to the edges...must stop doing that. Anyway, the sky hasnt really worked...well, lets face it, none of it has ha ha.. But I am pleased that I did it at all and it does look a bit like what I saw from my bench!
