That pose just had to be put down in pastel, which is a medium I find most challenging. I think I am getting there and as usual thoroughly enjoying the process.
That is lovely Rob.
Coming on really well, Rob.
Thank you Sylvia and Marjorie, that's all the encouragement I need to get on and finish it. I've just returned from a wet week in Wales armed with loads of sketches and photographs for future work. Isn't it funny that when you find something you really want to do that there never seems to be enough hours in the day?
Look forward to Pixie’s completion ! Interested to see it’s pastel I have just started dabbling in pastels but find it challenging especially the blending but I will keep practicing! I like using acrylics and water colours so pastels are very different.
Hi Gillian, I keep going back to pastels and find the blending of shades troublesome too, never quite reaching perfection, but then, do we ever? As long as I get a good likeness of the subject I am happy. My biggest regret is that I didn't start drawing and painting many years ago, I might have been quite good at it by now!
If you’re interested, there’s lots of excellent videos on YouTube by Emma Colbert who uses pastels for animals. Her paintings are amazing.
We have a great guide to pastel painting here https://www.painters-online.co.uk/tips-techniques/pastel/articles/a-guide-to-pastel-painting/ and lots of demos you can follow in the tips & techniques area too!
I've followed quite a few on the tips and techniques in all mediums and from experience, I can highly recommend them.
Glad you're finding them useful Denise!
