Hang on Studio Wall
Message
Earlier this week I painted a portrait of a blonde woman and was quite pleased with it so I posted it in the gallery. When I looked at it again this morning I thought the black jacket was too dominant so I did this: There's not a lot of the original left. I had lunch and looked at it again, and now I've done this........ I have no idea whether or not it's finished. I think it is, but I thought that on Wednesday! Of course now it looks nothing like the original photograph, not that it really matters because I don't know who she is anyway. I probably need to hang it face to the wall so I can't keep looking at it! Does anyone else keep fiddling like this?
So do you keep painting over the original?  Or new paintings in different outfits? No I wouldn’t  re do and admire your patience….
Of course Peter. My portrait of my daughter has been tweaked every day since I posted it - I finally took it off the site. I’m still changing it every day. This doesn’t always happen but at the moment I can’t leave it alone. The recent one is on the right. It’s nearly there, the one on the left, no, but it works. I’m going to take the light down tomorrow….and then that’s it!…I think.

Glad it's not just me Marjorie and you picture looks great to me.  Sylvia, I always paint in acrylics so yes, I just paint over the top of what it already there. I haven't the patience for oils.  I did try a second version of the same photo but I've ended up doing the same with that one. I suppose it's natural, we just want to make them better.
I've changed the eyes on both pictures and done a bit more tweaking and now I really am going to stop fiddling.  Probably.
Well done Peter.  I'm a persistent fiddler too, but don't always improve things.  I think you have improved your paintings, I particularly like the first of the above 2 paintings.
I know I said I'd stop fiddling but you didn't believe me did you?! I still don't like them, it's very frustrating.

Finally!
Many artists experience this—constantly tweaking and rethinking until they feel it's "done." It’s totally normal to keep adjusting as you refine your work. Sometimes, stepping away for a bit helps too. I had a massive coursework project due, and it felt impossible to handle alone. I used UKWritings from https://ukwritings.com/coursework-help and their coursework help saved me. The writer broke it down into manageable parts and the quality was way beyond what I expected. Total relief in a time of panic!
