This one is on the easel at the minute, needing a little tightening up in places to refine the thicker brush strokes, and perhaps a glaze or two to tone down some of the chalkiness which you get with white - I could have mixed a little Naples Yellow with the whites, but - well, I didn't, that's all! This will be for lovers of brush strokes - I like mine showing: a smoother finish could be achieved with more medium: you either like that or you don't, and on the whole I like a bit of rough, but there we are. This is based on a trip up to St Catherine's Down: worked up from sketches, and photographs by my friend Barry Fitzgerald, who was over here from Ireland at the time. Well, why take a photograph yourself when you have a professional photographer with you? http://www.isleofwightlandscapes.net http://www.wightpaint.blogspot.co.uk
That sky is pretty good Robert.
The sky was much helped by Michael Harding's Cobalt Blue - a gorgeous colour, stronger than most rivals that I've ever tried - I must compare it with W & N Cobalt Blue, of which I have a very small quantity left. http://www.isleofwightlandscapes.net http://www.wightpaint.blogspot.co.uk
great sky ,it,s hard to find fault with the landscape Robert ,it is 10 out a 10 for me
Lots of movement in the sky and grasses,
HI Robert just one word away from the thread have you ever had a secret attachment in an email that can be circulated .passed on to you unknowingly from a friend ,thats what I was on about on my face book page .. did you have large add appear ? any way the offending add was removed .I don't know how.maybe face book dose this, take care my friend and keep up the great oils ...
Another classic Robert, your fave subjects but what an abundance of inspiration you have. As for bit of rough, me too in brush strokes and textures. As you know I would never attempt this scene - these days, but with the scene and your snapper pal handy I could be tempted.
Should have added thanks for reminding me to top up on Naple Yellow.
