Not the fine Tennessee whisky... no no no. This is JD, the bootneck who lead the Al Blackman campaign, tireless and never giving up. So this commission is being do to present to him and will be signed on the back by other members of the campaign, plus myself. Basically is it on eof his proudest moments of the campaign speaking to 100's of bootnecks and civvies in Parliament Square, the flag is 40 Commando with who he served. Started with prepping the canvas with tinted gesso - ultramarine, which helped pick out flesh tones.
It is coming on well. You are right the ultramarine brings out the flesh tones. You might find that if you used masking fluid to reserve the areas not to be painted, then you could apply your washes of colour more evenly and quickly by using a sponge (on a stick). AB had a lot of local support here in Plymouth, but as a civilian I can't really comment.
Thank for the comments.... yes thought I'd try it. Surprised me at first but got used to it quickly. Background will be tidied up.
Looking really good so far Ant.
Looking good. Great tribute to JD. As the proud mum of a serving marine, I have followed this campaign to release Al. Good on you for honouring JD and his relentless battle.
