I'm struggling with this - I don't know what to do next. This is not a real iris. I've used the bottom of one and put it with the top half of another (using 2 reference photos). So the background is a real problem, with nothing to work from other than my imagination. Do I need a bud well? or field full of irises? or draw a line around all the leaves as per Van Gogh? Any thongs would be gratefully received.
Sorry forgot to put the pic in.
Awesome work.... for me personally, that is enough really. Possibly more depth in the background maybe, subtle. Other than that I think it's spot on.
I agree with A G - I think you've finished it. OK, press me harder (I'm not proud.....) and I might suggest just a few darker touches to delineate those background leaves and stems. But as it is, it's a striking painting, and I think congratulations are due. http://www.isleofwightlandscapes.net http://www.wightpaint.blogspot.co.uk
Good stuff. I would regard it as finished if it was mine...but I don't attempt flower painting.
I think its great Splosh...maybe as Robert suggested a few darker bits, but is lovely as it is.
I didn't mean "thongs", by the way - this predictive is really unpredictable. Please read "thoughts", but I think you have got the gist. Thanks for all your kind words. Dark bits it is then. This is my first flower painting in oils. In fact I have not painted many flowers all, but I thought they might go down well as Xmas presents.
Flowers are my favourite thing to paint at the moment and I think your Iris is absolutely brilliant. I wouldn't change it at all, you don't want to detract from the flower itself which is a gorgeous shade and your veins are super.
Beautiful.
Well I've added some darks. The trouble is if you add darks, you create form, which I was trying to avoid. So hear it is - any further comments would be most welcome. Sorry it's a bit big. Linda
Works for me.....
Right, now leave it! Walk away from the canvas, ma'am....... Put that brush down.... http://www.isleofwightlandscapes.net http://www.wightpaint.blogspot.co.uk
