Hi folks, Hope you can help. I have started this watercolour painting of my sister's malamute. I have a long way to go yet, but the pale blue background is throwing my eyes and putting me off. I would be grateful for any suggestions of where to go next, and how to solve that background problem. At the moment the whole painting is looking very frozen to me. Many thanks Dawn
The fact that the dog is a Malemute needs a dark background . your blue is far too weak to show the light colouring of the dog and you need a darker wash. Not too much so try a little blue wash on a small bit of watercolour paper and try it against the dog . This should show if the wash is too dark or too light. if so ,repeat with another experimental little wash until you get it right......Syd
Hi Syd, I have put quite a strong blue background in, which I think looks better. I will upload it, when finished. Thanks again for your advice.
Looking forward to seeing the completed painting with the contrasted background Dawn.
