I don't usually post on here but I thought this might be of interest. Yesterday at Market Overton art group some of the members were looking at some Klimt pictures to which black cats had been added. Like an idiot I had to go over to have a look instead of getting on with my nice ordinary steam lorry!  Why don't you paint one? said Lidia.....you've got some metallic paints.  As if that's all it needs!! So here I am with a 75cm x 60cm canvas and some copies of one of Klimt's best known pictures. No black cat though, at least for now. I'm not trying to do a straight copy (!)....for a start I don't find the face of the woman he painted attractive. I've enlarged the figure relative to the rest of the picture and given her a more modern hair style. It's very early days but I thought I'd photograph it as it progresses and we'll see what happens.  This is the original:  My canvas has different proportions but it was all I had available.  This is going to take a while.

I've got this far and now it's time for a rest! I think I've made her nose too long but that's a job for tomorrow morning.

I shall be interested in seeing how you develop this Peter. I already like your more modern take on the girl better. I hope you'll put in a black cat though!
I did a bit more last night, I'm happier with the face now. I'm still not sure about the cat Sandra!
This is by far the most bonkers picture I've ever attempted! I'm doing the whole thing in ordinary acrylics first as the metallics need a complimentary undercoat to give them body. I'll have to go over the lot again using those.
I presume your next modest challenge is to climb the North face of the Eiger, with lead boots on and a stick of rhubarb for support?  You've taken on a massive challenge with this, and just having metallic paints available - which Klimt wouldn't have used; I think he used gold-leaf - is not a good reason to expose yourself to this level of effort. Still, fools rush in, eh?  Well done for having the courage - of all the paintings in all the world, this is just about the last one I'd have attempted to reproduce or emulate - certainly not to copy - in any medium.  Still, I've got to say, your progress so far has been pretty remarkable, even if I wonder at your sheer chutzpah.
PS - and I know you're not trying for a straight copy; that WOULD be "bonkers".
I'm bonkers but not that bonkers Robert! I simply enjoy trying something different and if I hadn't had my leg putted at art group I would never have thought of it. I've spent nine hours so far and it's ready for me to add some bling.
I think she's finished; it's difficult to catch the shine of the metallic colours in a photo. She can go into the Rutland art exhibition tomorrow.
I think she is superb! I like the modern take on her, and terrific detail. But no cat!
I chickened out of the cat, if you see what I mean! However I do still have some metallic paint left................
I think you were wise - to add the cat would be to overdo the detail: and it might have looked like an afterthought; cats don't like being afterthoughts - it annoys them...
