During our local Open Studios, a few of the artists were invited to attend rehearsals or performances of the events run by Newbury Spring Festival. I was very fortunate to be one of those artists. The first event I attended was the rehearsal of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra at St. Nic's church in Newbury. I made a plethora of sketches, including this one (A3, fountain pen): I decided to work it up into a knife-painted oil. I selected a 40 x 80 cm canvas, and set to work... That's the main darks. I'm still wondering about that pianist's face. It needs to be brighter, less muddied by the phthalo blue...
Stunning Amanda in the steps to get there and the "nearly" finished piece subject to any tweaks. I have done some of the BSO based on odd sketches and a load of memory from many concerts in the same seat.
